Introductory ReflectionThroughout my time as an English major, I have acquired many useful skills such as time management, leadership strengths and using both my artistic and creative abilities to bring out the best in students. As I have been working on my degree, I have been a tutor at the local community college, Ivy Tech, for over five years working with remedial English students. During my time as a tutor, I have assisted students who greatly struggled in their studies and therefore, it gave me new appreciation for my courses at the University of Southern Indiana.
I strive for excellence in everything I do and while at USI and on the job tutoring, I was taught through my courses and work experience:
I am very passionate about reaching out to students and focusing on each individual student's needs. Also, in my time as a tutor, I facilitated students with disabilities as a Support Services Technician. The course work I completed at USI in exceptionalities courses prepared me to facilitate these students effectively and take what I learned to help them succeed. My experience, coupled with my skills acquired from my degree, continues to assist me in becoming a teacher. |
